Whether or not you believe that Facebook hit its peak years ago, you probably still find yourself on the social media platform checking up on family and friends. On occasion, you might even be inspired to practice the KonMari method around your home and put items that no longer spark joy up on Facebook’s Marketplace, but making a sell on it may be easier said than done.
To help everyone understands the experience, YouTuber Drew Gooden perfectly captured the conversations that take place when trying to sell simple items, like a lamp. “Alright, everybody. If I could have your attention, I am selling this lamp for $20,” he starts off the video. “The price is firm at $20, so please don’t try to negotiate.”
Over the course of the minute and 25 second long video, he speaks to six individuals, interpreted by himself, of course. "Would you take $10?" the first person asks, to which Drew says no because he's staying firm at $20 and not a dollar less.
But what may be the most frustrating and relatable aspect of the video is interacting with people who are interested in purchasing the item, but are unable to make the trip to pick it up. "You bring lamp to me," another person says.
The next interested buyer shares: "But I don’t have a car and my bike is broken and none of my friends have a car and all their bikes are broken and I don’t have any arms or legs and I don’t have any money."
In the end, Drew is "left on read" by people who don't want to go through the effort of having to travel for the item, along with the first person who continues to negotiate. But it turns out that they are also trying to sell their own lamp, and the YouTuber decides to buy it instead of selling. Before the funny video ends, he finds out that his new lamp doesn't even work.
Without missing a beat, Facebook immediately praised the video for its accuracy. "Nailed it! That happens...ALL of that happens, EVERY single time," one person wrote. "Most accurate depiction, period!" another added. "When i was selling all my furniture and wanted to scream," a follower shared.
